Feature Articles:   This link will bring you to an index page of articles written by ASGH members or for members use.  There is also a link to return you back to the article index after each article and to bring you back to this ASGHInfo page.  Send an abstract or article to any ASGH officer and the Webmaster for determining suitability for sharing with our audience.  Author will be credited and e-mail address provided for questions by users.  Disclaimer:  Viewpoints and any liability or solely the responsibility of the submitter and not the Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford or the Webmaster.

Who We Are: The Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford is a group of amateur astronomers interested in observing, photographing and generally studying the wonders of the heavens. Members are also involved in space science, telescope making and public education. The ASGH hosts public star parties and observing sessions and has been a Special Award sponsor at the Connecticut State Science Fair since 1992.  Membership form here, JOIN NOW!
NOTE:  Club Dues are due - Renewable every September. Changes have been made to the basic dues structure that, with the exception of the Honorary member, makes S&T an add-on at the reduced Club Rate.  The dues are $20 without S&T. Because we are a club S&T can be purchased at a $10 per year discount by ASGH members for $32.95 if they so desire as part of the membership package. See Membership for full details. NOTE: the increase in S&T.

Where We Meet: We meet at the Copernican Space Science Center Planetarium, Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, Connecticut. Meetings begin at 7:30PM and are on the third Wednesday of the month September through May, except for the April meeting which is held at the Van Vleck Observatory, Wesleyan University and may be on the second Wednesday. Feel free to call one of the officers for meeting times and general information.

Our Library: The ASGH Library is available to all members and contains many books on various astronomical and space related subjects.

StarConn: The ASGH also sponsors an event every Spring known as StarConn. Held at Wesleyan University, this is a day and evening of speakers on various current astronomical subjects. Vendors are present and an excellent dinner is available. StarConn was a big success this year.  See you next year for StarConn 2006!  The StarConn committee is now asking selected speakers for a commitment and vendors are being booked.  A lunch time tour of the Van Vleck Observatory is planned as is viewing on the 20" after the keynote speaker.  Member support activities have been identified and members will have an opportunity to sign-up for times and activities at club meetings, (pre-StarConn and day of the show).  See the StarConn 2003 link at the top of this page.

ASGH E-Groups !!! This is the ASGH Newsletter plus!  Want to get the most up to the minute information on what's happening with the ASGH?  Member activities, Star Parties, impromptu Star Parties, and general notices of happenings in the world of astronomy are all available on the ASGH 'egroup.'  This is a private Forum limited to members of the ASGH to allow us to communicate between meetings.  To send a message to the ASGH Forum you must first subscribe as a member. To subscribe, send an empty email message to: asgh-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.  After your email address is verified to assure you are a member of ASGH.   When you join the Forum your name will be added to a list of email addresses, and when someone sends a message to the Forum it will go out to all names on the list.   To send a message address mail to: asgh@yahoogroups.com.  To enter the Forum and access its features click on "Sign In" in the upper right hand corner of the screen. You need to create a Yahoo account to sign in to the forum to view past postings, calendars, view, download or add files and photos.   To make a Yahoo ID, Go to http://groups.yahoo.com.  On the left side of the screen it says Sign In Choose Click here to register.  Fill out the form, or as much of it as you feel like and press Submit this form.  Here you can also choose how you want to receive your ASGH notices, one at a time, daily digest or none.  Daily Digest allows you to be spared the individual e-mails.  With this option, you'll get one e-mail with up to 25 notes that were sent to the forum that day.  Of course, you won't get an immediate response to your posting, but for some, this saves getting multiple e-mails.  With None as a selection and a Yahoo ID, you can sign in to Yahoo and read your mail on the ASGH page without having e-mail sent to your computer.  Some people use this option to read ASGH e-mail at work instead of waiting to get home to read their mail.

We add important events to the Calendar & send out reminders before an event.  Every member is encouraged to participate in building the features of this Forum. Please visit often.  To unsubscribe from the forum send an empty message to:  asgh-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.  ASGH 'E-Group', Owner & Moderator Joshua CohenTom Karpf, Additional Moderator.
