This daylong astronomy conference is held at room 150, the Exley Science Center Auditorium, at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Presented by the Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford and with the kind and generous cooperation of the Astronomy Department 

of Wesleyan University.

7:00-8:30         Setup for vendors and swap tables

 

8:30am            Registration Opens:  Attendee check-in, vendors open.

 

9:15 - 9:30       Convention Opening:  Welcoming remarks, program updates.

                    

9:30 – 10:30     Edward DeLuca, PhD., Supervisory Astrophysicist, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA (and Wesleyan alumnus).
                       Title: Solar Physics in the Solar Dynamics Observatory Era

 

10:30 – 11:00   Break:  Vendors, Exhibitors, refreshments.

 

11:00 – 12:00   Mr. Charles Blue, Media Relations Specialist, Thirty Meter Telescope, Pasadena, CA.

                       The Thirty Meter Telescope: Astronomy’s Next-generation Observatory

 

12:00 – 1:30     Break:  Vendors, Exhibitors, Lunch available in the Science Center.

 

1:30 – 2:30     Matt Holman, PhD., Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics

                   “The Kepler Mission of Discovery: How Common are Planets Like the Earth?"

 

 2:30 – 3:30      Break:  Vendors, Exhibitors, refreshments & Student Presentations.

 

3:30 – 4:30       Ian Dell'Antonio, PhD. Assistant Professor, Physics Department, Brown University, Providence, RI.

                       "Astronomy Projects that Amateurs Can Do."

 

4:30 - 7:00        Dinner Break, on your own at one of Middletown’s many eateries. 

                        The Evening Program will begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp -- Same Hall – Science Building Room 150.

 

7:00 – 8:30  Evening Program:  Awarding of raffle prizes, presentation of the ASGH Astronomer of the Year award and                                      
 

 

The Charles Hammond Memorial Keynote Speaker: 

Dean Hines, PhD., Senior Research Scientist, Space Science Institute

Title: "The Formation and Evolution of Planetary Systems"

 

9:00 – 11:00     All are invited to visit the Van Vleck Observatory, weather permitting, to observe with the 20 inch Clark refractor.  Anyone wishing to 

                      set up equipment adjacent to the observatory is welcomed to do so.

 

StarConn will not be holding a Buffet Dinner.
Box lunches will be available for purchase near the registration table.
